Selecting Your Countertops

Matching a countertop to your needs

You need to consider your lifestyle and how you will use your countertops. Then you will need to research and understand the pros and cons of the various types of countertops available at SolidTops.

Advantages of Solid Surface Countertops
Solid Surface counters are made from Acrylic and Polyester composites that allow virtually invisible transitions between pieces, sinks, and even into the backsplash. Solid Surface is non-porous, making maintenance and cleanup very easy. There are many brands of Solid Surface, and Solidtops features EOS® and Corian® Solid Surface.

Advantages of Quartz Surface Countertops
Like solid surface, there are also many different brands of engineered quartz surfaces. Made from the same natural components as granite, engineered stones have more quartz content than natural granite and are an extremely dense, strong surface with consistent color and pattern. Additionally, because it is non-porous, engineered quartz surfacing offers low maintenance and long-lasting beauty, in many colors and textural color combinations. Solidtops is a distributor for Silestone and it is our most popular quartz surface. However, we also sell Zodiaq®, Cambria®, CaesarStone®, and Avanza®.

Advantages of Granite Countertops
Granite is the best natural surface used for countertops because of its extreme hardness. Its natural beauty and distinct variation allow you to have a countertop that is completely unique! It is strong, durable and beautiful. It is available in many colors and textures, and maintenance is very similar to that of the Quartz Surfaces.

The differences can be seen when directly comparing the products by some common attributes. This graphic should help you to compare SolidTop's main products.

Cost considerations
Many factors go into determining the cost of your countertops. While considering which product to go with and comparing prices, know that the elements that go into your countertop price are: square footage, the edge profile, the height of your backsplash, the sink and stove type, and the number of unusual cutouts or shapes.

Generally, the Solid Surfaces are less expensive than the Quartz Surfaces and the Quartz Surfaces are less expensive than Granite. To get an estimate of what your job would cost, complete the Request for Quote form and fax, email, or mail to SolidTops with a drawing of your layout. A SolidTops representative will then contact you with an estimate.

Sources of Granite
The granite comes from quarries all over the world such as Brazil, Italy, and India. There are currently over 3,000 different types of granite available worldwide. We stock several varieties in our showroom and we work closely with several local stone suppliers to offer you the widest variety of granite choices possible.

Choosing slabs for your granite countertops
Solidtops' showroom has a large selection of samples to look at and a stone yard with many slabs for you to select from. We prefer our customers select their exact slabs, since natural stones often have variation in them. If we don't have exactly what you are looking for, we have other stone yards in the area that you can go and tag the stone you want. Transportation from these stone yards to our facility is no additional cost to you.

Options for a backsplash
SolidTops can cut and install a variety of different types of backsplash. The standard for stone is 4'' high and the standard for solid surface is 3'' but we can be as creative as you need us to be. Some of our customers have selected full height backsplash, which runs from the top of your countertops up to your wall cabinets. Other customers have created custom splashes with swoops and swirls to add decorative accents to their walls. And still others of our customers have chosen not to have splash from SolidTops at all and instead install tile backsplash after SolidTops is finished with the countertop install. The sky is the limit, so let your creativity run wild!
