Soapstone is made of mineral deposits created by nature and quarried from the earth. The main mineral components are talc and chlorite, giving it a warm, soft feeling. Although soapstone is soft, it is very dense and non-porous. In fact, its denser than marble, slate, limestone and even granite. Due to its density, soapstone will not stain or etch from acids or alkalis. Its also heat resistant, making it virtually indestructible and easy to maintain.

Soapstone has a unique color with light flowing veins. A protective coat of mineral oil makes its color even more dramatic. It has a “rustic” or “old fashioned” look, but its also a stunning complement to modern designs, such as stainless steel or brushed chrome appliances.
